Preparing for the Land of Eternal Springtime
Intense UV and heat - We are at 7000 feet altitude right at the equator so bring:
Full brim sun hat with chin strap for windy conditions, not baseball caps
Long sleeve sun shirts and lightweight long pants
Sun glasses with UVA and UVB protection
Thin shoes and/or hiking sandals
Mosquitos are very rare at this altitude so mosquito repellent is not needed.
Wind, rain, and cold - The temperature is always between 80 to 60 degrees F. but there is no heating. Sitting around in misty 60 degree temperatures can chill you to the bone so bring layers:
Wind and rain jacket
Thick thermal outer wear
Thin thermal under wear (optional
Some times it is cloudy and warm so T shirts, shorts, and sandals are fine.
Medium weight sleeping bag and camp pillow
Soap, shampoo, towel, washcloth, brush, mirror, toiletries, toothpaste, etc.
Flashlight and/or headlight. Electric lantern optional.
Alarm clock (optional)
You may want to bring food treats for yourelf. Ecuadorian chocolate is superb
NO cigarettes or alcohol here, you can go to Vilcabamba for that
If you wish you can set up a tent or camping hammock anywhere you like
